Issue:
What if a card reader terminal shuts down and doesn't turn back on when you try to process a transaction? The card reader terminal is powered by the workstation using the USB drive. It is important to set up the workstation so that it provides consistent power to the card reader terminal. This keeps the card reader terminal from becoming unresponsive.
Resolution:
Solution #1 - Verify the power settings are correctly configured on the workstation
-
Open Device Manager.
-
Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
-
For each USB Root Hub device listed:
-
Right-click on USB Root Hub.
-
Select Properties.
-
Under the Power Management tab, uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
-
Click OK.
-
Repeat for ALL USB Root Hubs listed.
-
Open Control Panel.
-
Select Power Options.
-
Select Choose when to turn off the display.
-
Select Change advanced power settings.
-
In the Power Options window:
-
Expand USB Settings.
-
Expand USB selective suspend setting.
-
Click on Setting: Enabled.
-
Select Disabled in the drop-down menu.
-
Click Apply.
-
Click OK.
-
On the Edit Plan Settings screen, click Save changes.
Solution #2 - Unplug the card reader terminal, plug it back in, and then test it
-
This is just a temporary solution. For a permanent fix, you should configure the power settings on the workstation.
-
After unplugging the card reader terminal, right click on the RCM icon in the system tray, select Device Configure, and then click Test. This tests the card reader terminal.
Solution #3 - Restart/reset the card reader terminal, and then test it
-
This is also a temporary solution. On an iPP320, hold down the yellow button, and then press the .#* button. This will reset/restart the card reader terminal.
-
After resetting the card reader terminal, right click on the RCM icon in the system tray, select Device Configure, and then click Test. This tests the card reader terminal.
Solution #4 - Work with OpenEdge to order a separate power cord for the card reader terminal
-
If you have tried configuring the power settings on the workstation, but the card reader terminal still seems to be getting inconsistent power, you can order a separate power cord for the iPP320 from OpenEdge.
-
Generally, configuring the power settings on the workstation is enough to correct the issue. This solution is only very rarely needed.
