Pin Required For Credit Card Transactions?

Issue:
You're processing a credit card transaction and the card reader terminal asks for a PIN. What if the customer doesn't know their PIN?
  • The chip in the credit card determines when a PIN is required

  • Each chip in a credit card contains a list of what verification method should be used when the card is presented to a particular card reader. This list is programmed into the chip by the credit card issuer just before it is issued.

  • Currently, some issuing banks (most commonly credit unions) are requiring PIN verification on credit card transactions. If the issuing bank requires PIN verification, unfortunately, we cannot bypass that requirement to process the transaction.

Resolution:
  1. Key in the credit card transaction

  2. The customer can call the credit card issuer to obtain their PIN
